Wish you had a career in Horticulture and Landscaping

Horticulture courses at Capel Manor CollegeGot a penchant for all things green and leafy?

The school of Horticulture offers full-time and part-time day, evening and short courses for professional gardeners and hobbyists. We also offer 14-16 schools provision and apprenticeships.

Capel Manor was established as a centre for horticultural studies in 1968 and since then has developed a reputation for excellence and strong links with industry. Students have access to our 30 acres of gardens at Enfield providing inspiration throughout the year, as well as to areas of Regent’s Park, Gunnersbury Park and Crystal Palace Park for practical work. We are also equipped with a comprehensive range of horticultural tools and machinery.

Our students’ work is regularly recognised with awards from bodies such as the Royal Horticultural Society, City & Guilds Land-based Services and the Institute of Horticulture. Students regularly win internships at leading horticulture centres such as the RHS Gardens, Kew Gardens, Cambridge University Botanic Gardens and the Garden Museum.

The industry
Our world would be nothing without plants. They feed us, keep us warm and dry, clean our air and provide us with a beautiful green environment to live in. Working with plants, from designing and building a new city park to developing new food crops can be incredibly rewarding and there is a wealth of career options to choose from.

Is it for me?
Yes, if you enjoy sports such as football, rugby, golf, tennis and cricket; you’re interested in design and like being creative; you want to preserve our heritage and the environment; you enjoy growing and looking after plants; and you enjoy problem solving and working with new technology.

Opportunities
Working in horticulture is not just about gardening. You could find yourself working in areas as diverse as plant science and technology, arts and design, business, plant and food production, heritage and conservation, sports, leisure and greens spaces, and health and wellbeing.
