Course overview
This apprenticeship is a technical and supervisory training programme designed for experienced horticulturists ready to lead teams and manage complex outdoor spaces.
Through practical skills training, theory sessions, and applied workplace learning, apprentices build the expertise needed to plan operations, manage resources, monitor quality, and ensure safe, sustainable working environments. The programme blends industry practice with leadership development to shape confident, skilled supervisors capable of leading projects across parks, estates, gardens, and green infrastructure sites.

Apprenticeship Standard: Landscape or Horticulture Supervisor
Level 2 Certificate in Safe Use of Pesticides
Level 2 Award in The Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand-held Equipment
Level 3 Award in Training and Assessment in Emergency First Aid at Work
Level 3 Landscape or Horticulture Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard
Functional Skills in English and maths (if required)
You must be aged at least 16 on entry
PA1 pesticides theory qualification
You will need to be employed within the horticulture industry, working on average at least 30 hours per week under a contract of employment. You should be acting in a supervisory capacity or have the opportunity to do so while on the programme
Funding for this apprenticeship programme is dependant on the size of your business and the apprentice(s) recruited. Large employers will fund the programme though their Apprenticeship Levy whilst smaller employers may need to contribute up to 5% per apprentice to the total cost of training.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to complete Level 4 and 5 qualifications, progress in to full time employment within the industry or you can confidently continue working at a supervisory capacity in the industry.
As an apprentice, you do not pay for your course. Your employer pays all or part of the fee. We collect the remainder through our government contract.
