Tractor Driving and Related Operations (Level 2)

Student at Capel Manor College driving a tractor.

Course overview

This two-day training course is for you if you use a tractor as part of your work in agriculture, horticulture or another land-based sector.

Training will run from 9am to 4pm on both days, followed by an assessment on an additional day that will be arranged during your training.

You will be individually assessed with a practical test that covers the use of the tractor in a range of situations. The test will require you to operate a tractor safely and correctly around a suitable course. You will be required to successfully hitch a trailer to the tractor and correctly manoeuvre it around a suitable course, including successfully reversing the trailer. You will also be required to attach a 3-point linkage implement, with a Power Take Off (PTO) shaft, to the tractor.

Please note: This does not replace any legal requirement for a driving licence.

You will learn

  • Legal requirements for the use of a tractor
  • Recognition of tractor controls and instruments
  • How to undertake pre-use maintenance and safety checks
  • Safe driving techniques and the practical operation of a tractor
  • Hitching and unhitching a trailer
  • Connecting and disconnecting a three-point linkage implement
  • Safe use of Tractor PTO
