Course overview
Skills Bootcamps - Grounds Maintenance is an intensive, full-time training programme designed to prepare adults for employment in the horticulture and landscaping industry.
Running Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, this five-week programme combines practical, hands-on learning with employability support and direct links to employers across London.
You will train in Capel Manor College’s professional gardens and estates, developing the real-world skills and confidence needed to maintain parks, open spaces, and landscapes to professional standards. After the core training, you will continue to receive one-to-one support from your advisor to secure employment, attend interviews, and transition into work with support continuing until the end of March.
This will be a fast-paced and practical learning environment focused on results. Successful learners will be guaranteed an interview with one of our employer partners, giving you a direct route into employment.
You will learn
- How to safely use and maintain horticultural machinery, tools, and equipment
- Grass cutting, pruning, planting, and border maintenance techniques
- Turf care, soil improvement and plant identification
- Health, safety and environmental best practice for working outdoors
- Sustainable approaches to horticulture and grounds maintenance
- Job preparation and interview skills for the green sector
You will achieve a Level 2 Award in Practical Horticulture Skills (City & Guilds or equivalent), demonstrating your ability to work safely and effectively in the horticulture industry.
There are no formal entry requirements. However, you must:
– Be aged 19 or over
– Live in London
– Have the right to live and work in the UK
– Be available full-time (Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm) for five weeks
– Be committed to completing the programme and securing employment
– Have a strong interest in working outdoors and learning new skills
On completion, you will be equipped for immediate employment in roles such as grounds maintenance operative, landscape assistant or gardener. You can also progress to further training, such as our Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeship in horticulture or landscaping to continue developing your career.
This course is fully funded by the Greater London Authority, so there are no costs for eligible learners. If you are aged 19 or over and live in London, you can join for free.
