Course overview
This course will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in site analysis and design principles. You will also enhance your range of technical and graphical drawing skills to a professional standard.
You will focus on site surveying and associated techniques, as well as learning how to better understand the use of hard landscaping materials in garden construction. Please note, this course does not cover planting design or plant identification.

Certificate in Principles and Practice of Garden Design – Gateway Qualifications Limited Reference: 60096767
Garden Design Certificate (Level 2) preferred or alternatively, an RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth and Development and a Level 1 Pass in an introductory garden design course or equivalent, and a Level 1 Pass in an introductory garden design course. All applications are dependent upon tutor recommendations. You may be required to attend an interview and references may be needed. You must be aged 19 and over to enrol on this course.
Successful completion of this course will enable you to begin to set up in professional practice as a garden designer, progress to another Level 3 garden design course.
This course is part-funded by the ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency) or Greater London Authority (GLA) for those that are eligible.
If you are aged 16 to 18 years old at the start of your course, there are no course fees to pay. If you are aged 19 or over you will need to pay the course fees yourself, or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan (ALL). More information can be found on our Fees and Funding page.
