Stuart’s story
After 20 years of working in the scientific industry, Stuart embarked on a career change, studying garden design at Capel Manor College.
“I was in my mid-40s when I decided to move from the scientific industry to horticulture. I set up my own maintenance business and studied with the RHS, followed by a placement at a country estate.
I then decided to further my knowledge and skills by enrolling on a two-year garden design course at Capel Manor College. The course was well-structured and the visits to other gardens were very informative – it was the perfect outdoor learning environment.
I am now in the process of retiring so gardening will once again become a hobby, but I will be equipped with far more knowledge than I had before.
Capel Manor College helped me get to where I am today. In the future, I would like to find a way of helping newly qualified students who wish to set up a small business in horticulture by passing on some of my personal experiences.”
