Meet the Tutor: Shoemaker Sebastian Tarek
At the heart of London’s environmental college is a team of experienced and passionate tutors who live and breathe the courses they teach.
Experts in their own right, they encourage our learners to follow their passions, help them develop their practical skills, and give them the support and experience needed for a successful career after college.
This week, we introduce you to the newest member of our shoemaking team, Sebastian Tarek.
Sebastian is an Australian-born bespoke shoemaker based in East London, who has come from a long line of shoemakers stretching back to the early 1600s.
He has worked for some of London’s finest shoemakers since 2003, and spent years refining his skills through his own business venture by handling every aspect of the shoemaking process, from first measurement to last stitch.
Sebastian was educated at Cordwainers, London and became a shoemaker for several members of The West End Master Bootmakers’ Association.
With many years of experience under his belt, Sebastian’s skill and eye for detail results in quality, bespoke leather shoes and boots that are made for life.
Sebastian still works for two of the last remaining members of the West End Master Boot Makers society, who have been making shoes for the Royal Court since the 19th Century. This deep understanding of the heritage of classic English footwear, together with his own family background, has resulted in his own collection that has a rare attention to detail and material, and visible application to manual craft.
