Course overview
This Introduction to Allotment Gardening three-day course is designed for adult learners who want to develop the knowledge and skills needed to successfully grow fruit, vegetables, and herbs in an allotment or home garden.
Learning takes place through a combination of classroom discussion and hands-on activities led by an industry expert. As part of the Introduction to Allotment Gardening course, you will learn sustainable gardening practices and how to encourage healthy, productive growing spaces.
By the end of this short gardening course, you will have the confidence to establish, manage, and maintain an allotment throughout the growing season.
You will learn
- How to plan and set up a productive allotment or growing space
- The principles of soil health, cultivation, and improvement
- How to sow, plant, and maintenance of fruit, vegetables, and herbs
- Seasonal crop planning and succession planning
- Composting and sustainable gardening practices
- Skills to increase self-sufficiency
- The wellbeing benefits of growing your own food
Upon completion, you will receive a Capel Manor College Certificate of Attendance.
Prior attainment on RHS theory or Level 2 or Level 3 garden design course.
You can further your skills and knowledge with another horticulture workshop, or progress to a longer gardening or garden design course.
