Course overview
Modern day greenkeepers are responsible for the maintenance, care and overall appearance of golf courses while also being custodians of the countryside. The new Golf Greenkeeping Apprenticeship (Level 2) is available to all golf greenkeepers regardless of level of experience, and apprentices can be existing or new employees at a golf club.
This apprenticeship has been developed by the Greenkeepers Training Committee (GTC) in consultation with employers, training providers and the golf industry, drawing upon decades of experience. By the end of your studies you will gain wider skills and knowledge to progress within your greenkeeping career.
Our apprenticeships are predominantly work-based qualifications with enrichment days including contact with leading representatives in the greenkeeping industry. This course can take 24 months depending on prior experience with final grading based on evidence that has been gathered during the course, student’s statement, online exam and End Point Assessment (EPA) during which you will spend a day with an Independent Assessor (IEPA) showcasing the abilities you have developed during your learning period.

- How to prepare and operate a tractor with attachments
- How to present and maintain turf playing surfaces for golf
- How to renovate and repair sports surfaces
- How to establish plants outdoors
- How to prepare a golf course for play
Apprenticeship Standard : Golf Greenkeeper
You will need to achieve Functional Skills (Maths and English) during the course if GCSE grades are not already evidenced.
After submitting your application, you will be invited for an online interview via Zoom.
Upon completion, you will have a certified qualification enabling you to further your development within your greenkeeping career, you can also progress to the Advanced Golf Greenkeeping Apprenticeship.
As an apprentice, you do not pay for your course. Your employer pays all or part of the fee. We collect the remainder through our government contract.
