Capel Manor College is delighted to announce that our Enfield Campus - home to a mini zoo with an impressive collection of over 75 species - has been accredited provisional membership with The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA). The professional body represents the best zoos and aquariums in the UK and Ireland, and drives excellence in animal welfare, conservation, education and research.
The College is committed to conserving the natural world by educating and inspiring the next generation of workers in the animal management industries. Recognition from BIAZA is a momentous accomplishment for Capel Manor College’s staff and students and reflects their passion for animal care and conservation.
As well as being used as an educational resource for students and apprentices from Level 1 through to degree level, the zoo is also a popular visitor attraction within Capel Manor Gardens.
Led by Meg Wilson, Animal Collections Manager at the College, the Animal Management team have worked diligently to gain BIAZA membership for the zoo. Meg says:
“The team have worked incredibly hard over the last two years to set high industry standards, and we continuously achieve in annual and full zoo inspections. We’ve got a great team both on the business side and academic, and it’s fantastic that everyone’s hard work and dedication to education and conservation has been recognised by BIAZA.”
