Inspiring the next generation of conservationists
Capel Manor College recently welcomed TOP Conservation to its Mottingham Campus for a series of insightful and inspiring talks aimed at animal management students. The event was held in the newly opened Willow building – part of the ongoing project ‘Unlocking Potential’ -– and provided students with a unique opportunity to engage with professionals in the animal care and conservation industries.
A Day of Learning and Inspiration
Students from both Level 1 and Level 3 courses, as well as T-Level students, attended the event, making the most of this valuable learning opportunity. Throughout the day, three talks were delivered, each tailored to suit different levels and abilities:
- Weird Wildlife – A fascinating look into some of the most unusual and intriguing species found across the globe.
- What Paths Can You Take? – An exploration of the many career routes available within the animal care and conservation sectors.
- Careers: Reality and Advice – A candid discussion on the realities of working in the industry, offering valuable insights and practical guidance.
A Valuable Contribution to Student Learning
The talks were well-received by students, who showed great enthusiasm and curiosity. Many asked insightful questions, particularly about career progression in the industry.
The presence of two seasoned professionals from TOP Conservation added immense value to students’ learning experience. The guest speakers’ extensive knowledge and honest insights into the industry resonated with many, particularly those aspiring to careers in zoos, animal behaviour and grooming.
