Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible training programmes designed to help adults gain the skills employers are looking for right now.

Capel Manor College is working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) to deliver fully funded Skills Bootcamps in horticulture and green skills, helping London’s employers find and develop skilled people ready for work. 

Skills Bootcamps are short, flexible training programmes designed around real industry needs. They provide adults with the practical skills, knowledge and work readiness employers are looking for, helping you fill vacancies quickly and cost-effectively.

What we offer

Our current Skills Bootcamps focus on two key routes:

  • Grounds Maintenance – preparing participants for roles with landscape contractors, parks, estates and grounds management companies. 
  • Professional Gardener – supporting those looking to start their own self-employed gardening business, including sole traders who may later support your wider supply chain. 

Through these programmes, learners gain hands-on, industry-focused training delivered by Capel Manor College’s specialist tutors at our professional gardens and campuses across London. Employers are actively involved, shaping the content, offering site visits and taking part in guaranteed interview opportunities.

Participation is free for employers as the programme is fully funded by the GLA, meaning there is no charge for the training or recruitment support.

We are planning future Skills Bootcamps from September 2026, subject to funding.

Grounds Maintenance

Planned future programme (subject to funding). Develop practical skills in maintaining green spaces, with progression into employment. Includes: practical training, employer engagement and interview opportunities.

Professional Gardener

Planned future programme (subject to funding). Develop skills to work in horticulture or start your own gardening business. Includes: practical and theory training and business and self-employment support.

We are currently seeking employers who can: 
  • Offer interviews, trial placements, or job opportunities to learners completing their Skills Bootcamp
  • Provide insights into the latest skills and labour needs in the sector
  • Help shape future green skills delivery across London
