Course overview
This is a one day per week course delivered over 20 weeks and is ideal for beginners wishing to expand their interest, knowledge and skills with relation to leathercraft.
This course forms part of a suite of vocational Level 1 qualifications in fashion and textiles with a focus on leathercraft. You will acquire the relevant skills and knowledge needed to support progress into further education, training or employment within the leathercraft industries.
This qualification has been designed in response to an identified industry need for specific programmes of learning within the fashion and textiles sector. It will provide you with specialist and transferable skills and engage you with current industry practice. Once you have completed this course you will have a concrete understanding of areas such as soft furnishing, surface patterning and industrial garment construction.

At least two GCSEs at Grade 2 and above (E and above) and have studied GCSE English and maths or functional skills at Entry Level 3 or above. We will also consider your prior learning and any experience gained in an appropriate professional environment.
Before you start your course, if you are aged between 16 and 18 years, you will be required to attend a fun and practical two-day preparation workshop where you will meet your tutors and other students on your course. Further details will be provided at the point of an offer being made.
Successful completion of the course will lead to personal development in the leather skills area, as well as building your confidence. You could also progress onto one of our saddlery or shoemaking courses (provided entry requirements are met).
