Introduction to Chainsaws

Course overview

This one-day workshop has been designed to cover the most relevant aspects of using a saw and is focused on the correct techniques and application.

Whilst there are many videos available online depicting how to use chainsaws, a large majority do not show the correct techniques and industry best practice. There are also a number of videos that show the consequences of improper use and the injuries that occur as a result of this. With this in mind, Capel Manor College has created this hands-on workshop to build your knowledge and confidence through safe learning practices.

There will be a student ratio of four students to one instructor, chainsaws and equipment will be provided, however PPE will not be. You are welcome to bring your own saws if they meet the course criteria.

You will learn

  • Health and safety
  • Saw maintenance
  • Chainsaw checks

Although there is no formal qualification associated with this course, all participants will receive a Capel Manor College Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course.

You will need to come equipped with chainsaw PPE including: chainsaw protective boots Class 1 minimum, chainsaw trousers Type C Class 1 minimum, chainsaw grounds person helmet with visor and ear defenders, and chainsaw protective gloves.

You can further your learning with a formal qualification by progressing to our Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting course.
