Introduction to Heathlands

Course overview

This one-day workshop is a great introduction to the background of UK heathlands, ecology and biodiversity.

The workshop will cover a range of interesting topics including: history, management principles, species and survey options. You will also explore our beautiful, 30-acre estate in Enfield with our expert tutor.

This is a great opportunity to pursue a hobby, or consider if studying a longer course with us, is for you. Please note, this workshop is field-based, running from 9am to 4pm. Students will meet in the reception area and will need to bring lunch, suitable walking footwear, and weather-appropriate clothing. Additionally, those aged 16 to 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

You will learn

  • The history of UK heathlands
  • The ecological and biodiversity impact of heathlands
  • The principles of management, species and surveys

Although there is no formal qualification associated with this course, all participants will receive a Capel Manor College Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course.

No prior experience or qualification needed.

You can study one of our Level 1 or 2, wildlife and environmental conservation courses.
