Course overview
This Canine First Aid (Level 3) course is available at our Enfield Campus in London. Our dog first aid training will provide you with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to common canine emergencies.
This iPET accredited course teaches vital signs monitoring, DR ABC primary assessment, CPR, wound care and how to manage situations such as choking, poisoning, heatstroke, seizures and shock. During this course you will gain the core canine first aid skills every dog owner and professional should know. It is suitable for professional dog walkers, pet sitters, groomers, trainers, kennel staff and responsible dog owners who want to act confidently before veterinary help is available.
Gaining a qualification in canine first aid strengthens employability across roles where dog first aid competence is increasingly expected. Industry evidence shows dog walkers and pet professionals value accredited first aid training to enhance service quality and client confidence. This qualification also enhances credibility for self-employed professionals in a growing UK market.
You will learn
- Canine health, anatomy and physiology: understanding temperature, pulse, respiration, canine behaviour and body systems relevant to first aid.
- Emergency first aid principles (DR ABC): primary survey, recognising signs of shock, injury assessment and safe handling.
- Canine first aid techniques: practical skills including CPR, rescue breathing, wound management, bandaging and vital sign recording.
- Treatment of common canine emergencies: choking, poisoning, allergic reactions, stings, heatstroke, hypothermia, burns, gastric torsion, seizures, electrocution and more.
- Emergency response and communication: how to communicate during emergencies, prepare emergency kits and act safely prior to veterinary intervention.
iPET Network Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid

You must have the general ability to study and understand content at Level 3, but no formal prior qualifications are required. No experience is required and no membership or professional status is needed.
You should demonstrate a genuine passion for working with animals and show enthusiasm and commitment toward developing the professional skills required for a career in the pet-care sector.
Successful completion of this Canine First Aid (Level 3) course will provide you with a recognised Level 3 iPET accredited qualification in canine first aid, enabling you to work more safely and professionally within the pet-care sector.
You may also progress onto further specialist training, such as higher-level canine emergency first aid, grooming qualifications or broader animal care courses.
This course is part-funded by the ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency) or Greater London Authority (GLA) for those that are eligible.
If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 at the start of the course, your tuition, exams and materials fees will be paid for you in full as long as you meet some basic criteria for UK residence (more information can be found on our Fees and Funding page).
If you are aged 19 or over on the day your course starts, you may be entitled to help with tuition fees subject to criteria. If you receive employment benefits, have a low income, or are studying towards your first substantial qualification, you may be entitled to free tuition. For some of our courses, we offer a discount for current students. If this is the case, you will see the reduced fee when you select your chosen course, campus and start date. To qualify for this discount, you must already be studying another course at Capel Manor College, and be adding this course to your existing programme.
