Course overview

This beginner’s Level 1 photography course is designed for individuals eager to grasp the basic fundamentals of photographic processes. During the course you will learn the art of capturing creative images using a camera, how to apply techniques of digital image manipulation to enhance your photographs, and a range of foundational technical skills.

Surrounded by our historic and picturesque 30-acre Capel Manor estate that is home to our Enfield Campus and Capel Manor Gardens, this beginner’s photography course will provide you with opportunities to explore, experiment and build confidence in taking your creative images.

You are encouraged to bring your own camera for your personal use so you can become more familiar and develop your confidence with its use. There will also be some sessions based around smart phone photography where you will learn the best ways to instantly improve your smart phone photography skills.

You will learn

  • Techniques of digital image manipulation to enhance your photographs
  • A variety of assessments, including building a portfolio of evidence and delivering presentations to showcase your skills and knowledge

No previous experience required. You will need at least two GCSEs at grade 2 and above (E and above) and have studied GCSE English and Maths or Functional Skills at grade 3 or above (D and above). You must be aged 19 years or over.

Successful completion of this course will support you to progress into employment in creative industries including photography, art and design, craft, animation and moving image production.

This course can also support you to progress onto further qualifications at Level 2 in creative subjects including photography, art and design, craft, animation and moving image production. Some courses include Art and Design (Level 2), Certificate in Creative Craft (Art and Design) (Level 2), Certificate in Photography (Level 2).
