Visitor Secures Apprenticeship at Open Day

We’re delighted to share a fantastic outcome from our recent Open Day at our Enfield Campus.

Sonny, aged 16 from North London, attended the event to explore opportunities in forestry and tree surgery. During the day, he spoke with the team from Ushers Tree Work, one of our long-standing industry partners. Following a conversation with Capel Manor College’s Assistant Principal, Sam Black, the CEO of Ushers Tree Work offered Sonny an apprenticeship on the spot.

“It was a brilliant moment to witness,” said Sam Black. “Sonny made a great impression, and it was fantastic to see his enthusiasm turn so quickly into a job offer.”

Ushers Tree Work has a strong relationship with Capel Manor College, having supported our Most Improved Apprentice Awards for over a decade. At the event, they also confirmed that Capel Manor College will be their official apprenticeship training provider going forward.

“Many of our senior staff began their careers through Capel Manor College’s apprenticeship programme, so we know how valuable it is,” said Michael Barker, Director at Ushers Tree Work. “We’re pleased to be working with the College again and excited to welcome new apprentices like Sonny.”

This story is a brilliant example of how our employer partnerships support students into real jobs and careers. Capel Manor College offers a wide range of land-based courses and apprenticeships, helping students across London gain the practical skills and knowledge they need for a successful future.
