Capel Manor College Wins Gold at BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair 2025
Capel Manor College has been awarded Gold in the College Gardens category at the BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair 2025.
The College’s garden, titled Aspects of Nature, was designed and built by students on the Level 2 Professional Gardener Diploma. The immersive and thoughtful display impressed judges with its creativity, sustainability, and detailed planting.
This marks the second year in a row that Capel Manor College has achieved Gold at the Spring Fair, following last year’s success with Come Rain or Shine.
Responding to this year’s theme, Nature’s Art Within a Garden, students explored the natural beauty found in contrasting environments. Aspects of Nature featured two distinct zones: a shaded woodland side with moss-covered logs and fungal textures, and a Mediterranean-inspired space with drought-tolerant plants and sculptural elements.
Judges praised the garden for its strong concept, use of repurposed materials, and sensory appeal, describing it as a powerful blend of education and experience.
Zephaniah Lindo, Head of Curriculum for Horticulture and Landscape at Capel Manor College, shared his pride in the students:
“Winning Gold is a huge achievement and well-deserved recognition for the commitment, professionalism and creativity our students have shown. This project challenged them to think deeply, work to a live brief and produce something with real public impact.”
Students were present at the event and spoke with visitors throughout the weekend, sharing insights into their design process and build experience. The project offered valuable hands-on learning and professional exposure.
Following the show, elements of Aspects of Nature will be relocated to the College’s five campuses across London, where they will continue to engage students and the wider community.
Capel Manor College extends its thanks to supporters who helped bring the garden to life, including Caradon Stone, Bradstone, Wood Green Timber, and Caley Bros. Mushrooms.
