Water management
In recent years, heavy flooding has increased the cost of food due to crop failure, caused transport and housing issues, and risked life. The Met Office predicts that by 2070, UK winters will be up to 30% wetter while summers will increase their average temperature and we experience increased heatwaves.
Our Come Rain or Shine Garden uses water capture and water tolerant plants to absorb excess rainfall and slowly infiltrate it back into the soil. This reduces pressure on the already struggling wastewater and sewage systems. Surrounding soils will hold onto moisture, allowing trees, shrubs and plant roots to access water for longer, which is valuable in times of drought. During difficult weather conditions, if plants are thriving they will attract a wider host of birds and insects, creating a wildlife haven for survival.
