Elizabeth’s story
Elizabeth is an animal keeper at Woburn Safari Park and studied our Keeper and Aquarist Apprenticeship.
“I was already working at Woburn Safari Park when I heard about Capel Manor College. I wanted to increase my knowledge and skills, so when my employer presented me with the option to study the Keeper and Aquarist Apprenticeship, I seized the opportunity.
I studied at the College for two years via online classes, and attended the College twice in person, once for my induction and then a second time for an awards ceremony. Each time I visited, I liked the atmosphere and felt welcome.
I enjoyed my time during the apprenticeship as it furthered my abilities at work, enabling me to carry out additional tasks in areas such as medical and restraining.
The apprenticeship has improved my confidence and skills in both theory and practice, and I am able to apply all that I have learnt to help animals at the zoo, as well as with my team members.
My tutors were brilliant, very helpful and encouraging, and shared lots of useful information based on their experience in the industry.
I am currently working as an animal keeper within the demonstrations team, where I hope to progress further in my career.”
