Students’ votes are in as new building names announced for Capel Manor College’s ‘Unlocking Potential’ project

Capel Manor College’s ‘Unlocking Potential’ project is well underway and will transform the College’s South London provision, offering outstanding energy-efficient facilities, supporting the GLA’S ambition for London to reach net-zero carbon by 2030.

Students and staff were given the opportunity to cast their votes for the names of the two new buildings. They chose from a list of tree species that were carefully chosen for their symbolism and can be found around the Mottingham Campus.

The winning names were Willow and Maple! The white willow tree is seen as a symbol of survival and rebirth, and maple is a pollution fighter, supporting an ecosystem of caterpillars and aphids. Both names are certainly a fitting tribute for London’s environmental college.

With the completion of Willow and Maple expected by October 2024, prospective students can look forward to exceptional educational facilities. Both buildings have been carefully designed to meet the evolving needs of students in today’s rapidly changing world.

These buildings will offer a range of facilities and resources that will enhance the learning journey of every student. The ‘Unlocking Potential’ project will enable Capel Manor College to deliver T Levels in Animal Care and Management from September 2024. T Levels are a new two-year qualification for post-GCSE students aged 16 to 19 and are equivalent to 3 A levels. T Levels are part of government reforms to help address the skills gap, and provide a clear range of options after GCSE. All courses have been developed with leading employers in the relevant industries to ensure that young people gain the essential knowledge and skills that businesses need.

From spacious classrooms and well-equipped laboratories, to collaborative study areas and state-of-the-art technology, Willow and Maple will provide an inspiring and supportive environment for the College’s students to thrive in.

Prospective students can look forward to a vibrant and dynamic learning community at Capel Manor College’s Mottingham Campus. With full and part-time courses in areas such as agriculture, animal management, floristry and event styling, and horticulture, there is something for everyone.
