Award-Winning Success at the UK’s Largest Careers Event
London’s leading land-based education provider, Capel Manor College, exhibited at Skills London on 15 and 16 November 2019 at ExCel London and were awarded ‘Most Engaging Team’ for the second year running. The College’s interactive stand inspired young people and adults to consider careers in protecting and cultivating the environment.
Event organisers recognised the collaborative work that went into creating and running the College’s exhibition and presented staff and students with the award for ‘Most Engaging Team’.
The exhibition stand showcased Capel Manor College’s diverse course offering across its six campuses in areas such as animal management, horticulture, floristry, balloon artistry, arboriculture and garden design. Prospective students were encouraged to participate in fun demonstrations that included: operating a chainsaw through virtual reality, designing their own garden, crafting floral bracelets and meeting reptiles from the College’s zoos. A hydroponic tent was a prominent feature highlighting the evolving ways in which horticulturalists can grow food in urban environments.
Skills London is a free jobs and careers event for 15-24 year olds helping young people to visually bridge the gap between what they enjoy and what they could potentially do as a career. The two-day event welcomed over 30,000 young people and their families, along with over 200 exhibitors including employers, universities and colleges.
Capel Manor College Principal, Malcolm Goodwin said: “Developing the knowledge, skills and understanding about how we protect our environment and respond to the climate challenge ahead is vital. It is our young people leaving school now that will become the guardians of the environment in London. Skills London allows our students and staff to showcase the fantastic environmental and land-based courses offered at Capel Manor College through an interactive and engaging exhibition and invites pupils to consider new and rewarding careers.”
