Four of Capel Manor College’s floristry students were given the wonderful opportunity to be involved with the behind-the-scenes production of the gold, award-winning ‘Behind Every Great Florist’ exhibit at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The exhibit, designed by Ming Veevers Carter marks the debut at the event of New Covent Garden Flower Market, which has for decades provided plants, cut flowers and foliage to Chelsea’s designers.
‘Creating the exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show was a monumental team effort and we were stunned and hugely appreciative of the support from the students at Capel Manor College in the run up to show. We hope that being part of exciting events like these inspires future careers in floral design.’
The spectacular floral tribute to the Queen, in celebration of her 90th birthday received outstanding acclaim and has subsequently become one of the most-published images of the Show. It featured a layered, scented tapestry of 10,000 flowers, including roses, arum lilies, hyacinths, freesias, gladioli, clematis and sweet peas, and took the team six months to create.
Natalie Revett, Head of Floristry at Capel Manor College, said ‘The creativity of our students never fail to amaze me. It was an incredible experience for our students that were involved, and one they will remember forever.’
