Introduction to Organic Vegetable Growing at Forty Hall Farm

Course overview

This course is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience at our certified organic farm. The Farm is also home to a market garden, community orchard and commercial vineyard.

You will learn

  • How to prepare beds for planting and sowing
  • Seed propagation
  • How to maintain a planted area
  • How to support plants on wires, frames or a trellis
  • Weed identification
  • How to water correctly
  • Tool use and maintenance
  • Health and safety practices
Entry requirements

You will need your own safety boots for practical activities, gardening gloves and an up-to-date tetanus vaccination.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to our courses at the next level including The Maintenance Gardener (Level 1), The Fruit and Vegetable Gardener (Level 2), The Professional Gardener (Level 2) or The Hard Landscaping Gardener (Level 2).  You will also be prepared for voluntary work in community allotments and gardens, urban growing farms, charities or you can gain entry-level employment in the food production/fruit and vegetable growing industry.
