Advanced Golf Greenkeeping Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Course overview

The Advanced Golf Greenkeeping Apprenticeship (Level 3) encompasses various job titles and technical specialisms. This apprenticeship is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to operate at an advanced level where supervisory and/or specialist technical and agronomic skills are required.

Upon completion, you will have the necessary skills to supervise a greenkeeping team and oversee the implementation of golf course maintenance, in the absence of the Head Greenkeeper or Golf Course Manager, and in-line with your employer’s requirements.

This course can take 24 months depending on prior experience with final grading based on evidence that has been gathered during the course, student’s statement, online exam and End Point Assessment (EPA) during which you will spend a day with an Independent Assessor (IEPA) showcasing the abilities you have developed during your learning period.

Apprenticeship Standard: Golf Greenkeeper

Individual employers will set their own selection criteria, however a candidate entering this apprenticeship would typically have prior greenkeeping experience and may hold a Level 2 qualification in greenkeeping or its equivalent. You will need the following mandatory qualifications: Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) along with either, PA2 (Boom Sprayer) or PA6 (Hand Held Applicators) or equivalents as detailed on hse.gov.uk.

If you have not yet achieved at least grade 2 in English and maths, you will have to achieve this as part of the apprenticeship too.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to move into a supervisory position within a greenkeeping team.

As an apprentice, you do not pay for your course. Your employer pays all or part of the fee. We collect the remainder through our government contract.
