Course overview
Students will get the opportunity to study elements from animal care, countryside and the environment, floristry, horticulture, wildlife and habitats.
This course is for young people aged 16 to 18 (or 19 to 24 year olds with an EHCP) with a willingness to work outdoors and an interest in the land-based courses we offer. We also accept young people aged 14 -16 on a part-time basis who are attending school and wish to experience a land-based curriculum one to two days per week as part of their transition into further education. This must be agreed and arranged in advance with the relevant department within the College and approved by the school. We also accept home-schooled students who have turned 16 on 31 August in the year they wish to study on this programme. Potential students will be invited for an interview that will include a literacy and numeracy assessment.

Students must be willing to work outdoors and take part in practical activities. An interest in gardening, working outdoors or with animals is a key requirement of the course. Students must have achieved at least Entry Level 2 in English and Maths (the approximate equivalent of a Year 8 secondary school literacy and numeracy level) . An application form will need to be submitted along with information relating to any special educational needs (for example an EHCP, reports from other agencies, or school reports). Before students start their course, if they are aged between 16 and 18 years, they will be required to attend a fun and practical two-day preparation workshop where they will meet their tutors and other students on their course. Further details will be provided at the point of an offer being made.
On successful completion of this course, students have the opportunity to apply for our full-time Level 1 or 2 courses, or an apprenticeship.
This is a full-time course. If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 at the start of this course, your tuition, exams and materials fees will be paid for you in full as long as you meet some basic criteria for UK residence. Further information will be provided when you enrol.
If you are aged 19 or over on the day your course starts, you may be entitled to help with tuition fees for some courses. If you are in receipt of employment benefits, have a low income, or are studying towards your first substantial qualification, you may be entitled to free tuition.
