Digital Apprenticeship Service
Small and medium-sized businesses, who do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy, will take full control over apprenticeships in their business as they will have to register them and bring them on board using the Education and Skills Funding Agency’s (ESFA) Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS).
Previously, only apprenticeship levy-paying employers – those with an annual total pay bill of over £3m, or those in receipt of a transfer of apprenticeship funds – were able to use this service.
Whilst all other employers (those who do not pay the levy) have had access to some of these functions, such as find an apprenticeship, the ESFA is now opening up the digital apprenticeship service to employers of all sizes, regardless of whether they pay the levy or not. This will provide employers with the choice over how they want to make use of apprenticeships and make them work for their business. All employers will be able to control how they pay for their apprenticeship training, and assess and recruit their apprentices.
As of 1 April 2021 all employers are expected to register for a DAS account.

Employers will receive an increased incentive payment of £3,000 for new apprentices of any age who start their employment between 1 April and 30 September 2021.
Employers can apply for incentive payments for these apprentices from 1 June 2021 via their apprenticeship service account.
You can spend the payment on anything to support your organisation’s costs and you do not have to pay it back.
