Access to FE in
Landbased and Environmental Studies

This course is a one-year Entry 3 level developing practical work skills and improving communication, teamwork and organisational skills. It is assessed through a mixture of practical activities and by portfolio building.

Entry requirements
The course is aimed at 16-21 year olds with Learning Difficulties/Disabilities such as dyslexia, Asperger’s Syndrome and other mild autistic tendencies, mild general Learning Difficulties or mild ADHD. The course is also suitable for young people with poor earlier educational experiences due to school phobias, other general anxiety disorders, or poor attendance.

Candidates need to be able to work towards Entry 3 in Literacy and towards Entry 2 in Numeracy. This course is not suitable for candidates requiring one to one support or supervision.

All applicants are invited to interview with the vocational tutor and the Learning Support team. Submission of information relating to special educational needs (e.g. statements, reports from other agencies, and contact with parents/carers) is vital to assess candidates’ needs prior to acceptance on the course.

Candidates need to have the potential to improve their education over the year and, hopefully, progress to a Level 1 course in Animal Care, Horticulture, Floristry or Countryside Management at Capel Manor College.
