FINANCE OFFICER (General Ledger) – Enfield (part time)
£20.357 to £22,235 plus £1,704.50 LW. Pro Rata.
We are a Further Education College specialising in land-based training, and are looking to recruit a Finance Officer for two days a week to be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective financial controls and full compliance with the College’s Financial Regulations.

Description of duties
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the Director of Finance to ensure the prompt monthly closure of the general ledgers to a tight deadline to enable the early issue of management information.
- Review the reconciliations of bank accounts and control accounts completed by colleagues.
- Prepare payroll reconciliations; and reconciliations where colleagues are prevented from work through personal circumstances.
- Reconcile supplier statements to the purchase ledger and liaise with purchase ledger colleagues to ensure an appropriate and timely response.
- On a monthly basis, update and run the fixed asset ledger
- Complete the monthly return to the Local Government Pension Scheme
- Review the detailed monthly departmental variance reports and report findings to Finance colleagues and budget holders
- Report monthly performance against the key accounting ratios applied by the College
- Interpret the financial information thus generated; and identify and report issues as they arise to the Director of Finance in both verbal and written form.
- Assist Finance colleagues in credit control duties
- Prepare the working paper file in support of the monthly management accounts and quarterly VAT returns.
- Provide assistance to the internal and external audit teams as required.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Answering all queries arising in relation to the above duties.
- Organise personal workload to operate within the specifications of the Finance department service standards
- Provide support to the Finance Director as requested and provide cover for other finance staff as appropriate.
- Any other duties of a comparable nature as required by the College in the Finance Office or other departments.
Experience/special knowledge/job requirements
Successful candidates will need the following qualifications, experience and personal skills:
- At least 3 years in an accounts/finance environment.
- Proven experience and knowledge of preparing accounts to trial balance stage and reconciling control and imprest accounts.
- 5 O Levels or GCSEs, grades A-C, including Maths and English or a work experience training programme with substantial training in accounts.
- Excellent computer skills including Excel and Word
- Knowledge of financial processes and reporting requirements
- Fast and accurate data input skills
- Organised and methodical filing
- Ability to organise and process workload to timetable
- Ability to work effectively as a team-player
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues in the Finance Department, and in the College
- Confident, self-motivated with a committed approach to work.
- Attention to detail with a proven ability to resolve issues
- An understanding of and commitment to Diversity & Equality as it applies to a supportive service and in the workplace.

It is desirable for candidates to possess:
- Minimum of three years use of computerised accounting systems
- Having worked in the voluntary sector and/or an understanding of the role of the voluntary sector in service provision.
- AAT qualified or studying for AAT
- An understanding of accounting policies and their application.
- Flexible approach to working hours during periods of peak workload

Hours: 14.4 hours per week. (2 days). Days of the week to be worked would be preferably Monday and Tuesday but this could be negotiable.

PA to the Vice Principal (Maternity Cover) – Enfield

Description of duties
- Coordinating and maintaining papers, files and records of all curriculum and management meetings and events organised and attended by the Vice Principal.
- Undertaking and prioritising word and data processing as requested by the Vice Principal, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Providing an administrative service for the College’s Academic Board, Managers’/Quality Meeting and Governing Body Curriculum and Quality Committee, to include taking minutes, preparation of agendas, and collation of background reports.
- Providing an administrative service for internal college meetings (to include the following meetings: Heads of School, Student Services Steering Group, Verification Steering Group, Enrolment Steering Group and staff hearings/ investigations as required).
- Liaison with Governors, funding and awarding bodies, outside organisations/agencies, academic and administrative staff and Student Registry as required.
- Responding to telephone enquiries and taking messages on behalf of the Vice Principal.
- Managing the Vice Principal’s electronic diary to include making appointments and arranging meetings.
- Ensuring that work generated by the Vice Principal to include photocopying, filing and distribution of information/post/documents to other members of staff is processed. Opening the post of the Vice Principal and processing post as appropriate.
- Assisting the PA to the Chief Executive with projects involving the Chief Executive and Vice Principal as required and, in the absence of the PA to the Chief Executive, assisting with the provision of cover where possible.
- Keeping records, collating and providing information as required for reports by the Vice Principal, budgets, and statistics associated with the academic delivery of the college including funding returns.
- Ensuring that staff are informed of meetings they are required to attend and the dates. Ensuring that papers/files, accommodation, resources and refreshments are available for relevant meetings.
- Leading on administrative arrangements for College monitoring and assessment including, Ofsted and QAA review, Training Quality Standard accreditation, Matrix and Investors in People recognition.
- Contributing to arrangement of College functions as requested and taking the lead (supported by the admin team) on the annual Awards Ceremony at the Enfield centre in liaison with other appropriate members of staff. This includes issuing invitations, producing the Awards Ceremony programme and ensuring all information is available with regard to prize winners, producing and checking all certificates are available and tickets for the event are distributed as appropriate. Ensuring all cups are returned from the previous year and prizes are purchased for course prize winners.
- Supporting administration of Learner Satisfaction Surveys and Staff Satisfaction surveys in liaison with QDP Data Services.
- Liaising with curriculum project administrators to maintain mutually accessible records as appropriate.
- Any other reasonable duties of a comparable nature as required by the Vice Principal or PA to the Principal/Chief Executive.
Experience/special knowledge/job requirements
Successful candidates will need the following qualifications, experience and personal skills:
- Experience of working in an administrative environment
- Substantial experience of using Microsoft suite of software. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.)

Lecturer in Horticulture – Gunnersbury Park
£18,176 to £32,609 plus £1,835.50 LW.

General Responsibilities
- Contributing to the teaching programme of the College.
- Acting as a personal/year/course tutor as required.(Mainly based at Gunnersbury Park but teaching may be required at other centres)
- Liaising with examinations department to register students for their qualification; and entering results at the end of their course
- Liaising with academic staff and college managers with regard to the College’s Self Assessment process.
- Maintaining a quality service.

Duties:
- Delivering and assessing (to the appropriate examination body standards across Entry 3 to level 3) a range of subjects related to Horticulture, including but not limited to Amenity Horticulture, Plant Science, Propagation, Soil Science, Machinery, Landscaping and Ecology.
- Acting as a Course Manager for the NPTC/City & Guilds Level 1 Landbased Diploma (Horticulture) including minuting meetings, conducting tutorials with students, recording results and providing management information.
- Teaching horticulture to school links students (14-17 year olds)
- Providing specialist advice relating to horticulture activities and developments.
- Contributing to management of delegated budgets in accordance with College polices and procedures.
- Supporting curriculum planning, development and support within the School.
- Researching and producing course materials.
- Liaising with horticulture practical instructors, other technicians and internal staff with regard to the provision of practical student activities.
- Liaising with external bodies, visiting speakers, employers, schools and work experience sponsors.
- Ensuring that all requirements and regulations relating to health and safety are adhered to at all times. Responsible for ensuring that the health and safety of students is maintained whilst undertaking practical sessions.
- Providing specialist input into the development of new courses, modules, services or activities within the college and estate.
- Taking a lead on development of designated practical areas at Gunnersbury Park
- Leading on on-site propagation at Gunnersbury Park
- Any other duties of a similar nature as required by college managers.
Experience/special knowledge/job requirements
Successful candidates will need the following qualifications, experience and personal skills:
- Experience of delivering horticulture to students with learning difficulties
- Experience of curriculum development in an educational or training environment
- Experience of working in an educational or training environment
- National Vocational Qualification Horticulture (minimum level 3) or equivalent
- Teaching qualification (support will be given to gain accreditation.)
- Assessor awards(training will be provided to achieve these)
- Effective communication and organisational skills.
- Sound administrative skills
- Familiarity with Information Learning Technology applications
- To work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- To be able to instruct and assess practical skills in horticulture
- Flexibility, responsiveness and commitment to the area of work
- Skilled in liaison and negotiation with others

Certificates in any NPTC related short courses; PA1, PA6A, use of mowers etc.
