The Programme
The Foundation Degree Horticulture offered in partnership with Birkbeck, University of London, offers a unique opportunity for staff in the land-based sector to gain a work relevant, higher education qualification. Students will specialise in either ‘Parks and Green Spaces’ or ‘Amenity Horticultural Management’. This allows students to focus on their particular work and study interests, whilst producing horticultural practitioners with industry relevant specialised skills. The programme allows easy progression from Advanced Apprenticeships and other level 3 courses onto a degree.

Assessment
The modules making up this course are generally assessed through coursework, with just a few elements being assessed through examination.
Entry Requirements
Students will normally have at least one subject at AS/A Level preferably Biology, Geography or Environmental Sciences. An appropriate BTEC National Certificate/Diploma/14-19 Diploma or equivalent level 3 qualifications including the Advanced Apprenticeship, will be considered.
Applications from students with some Horticultural qualifications or experience are welcome to discuss opportunities for Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning.
All applicants will be interviewed and will undertake a short computer-based test of basic numeracy and literacy.
Applications from mature students (including those with non-traditional entry profiles) are welcome. Capel Manor College may assist students not currently employed to seek relevant employment within the industry.
Programme Costs
In addition to course fees students will require steel-capped boots, a good pair of secateurs and suitable outside clothing.
